Founding and Early Years (2002–2009)
Establishment of DIU
Daffodil International University (DIU) was established on January 24, 2002, under the Private University Act of 1992. It started in Dhaka with 67 students and a few academic programs.
Permanent Campus Established
DIU established its permanent campus at Daffodil Smart City, Birulia, Savar, Dhaka, providing state-of-the-art facilities. The period from 2002-2005 also saw an expansion in academic offerings and infrastructure.
Academic Growth and Recognition (2010–2015)
Global Recognition & Excellence
DIU won the World Quality Commitment (WQC) Award and the DIU programming team became champion in the IUBAT-Inter University Programming Contest.
Joins International Association
DIU became a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), enhancing its global academic network.
Significant Academic Expansion
The number of approved academic programs grew significantly, expanding from 5 to 36 programs, including bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate diplomas.
National and International Achievements (2016–2020)
Receives Multiple Prestigious Awards
DIU received the World Congress of IT (WCIT) Merit Award, Global Inclusion Award, and Asia’s Most Inspiring Nation Builder Award for its contributions to higher education.
Excellence in ICT Education
DIU was awarded the ASOCIO ICT Education Award for excellence in ICT education.
Top Rankings for Sustainability & Research
DIU won the GEN ROOKIE of the Year Award, ranked top in Bangladesh in UI Greenmetric World University Rankings, and 1st among private universities for SCOPUS indexed publications.

Landmark University Rankings & Anniversary
DIU achieved a remarkable milestone by being ranked jointly 1st in Bangladesh in the THE Asia University Rankings 2025, secured a notable position in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, and celebrated its 23rd founding anniversary.
